Song For Ten. . . . . As this journal isn't open for random perusal, I suppose I'd better write something about myself. My name is Lisa. My nickname is Iby. It's a long and ridiculous story involving Belle and Sebastian. You'll find my life is sort of like that. Long and ridiculous, that is. All I ask you to remember is this: it is pronounced "eye-be." I love music. I'm the person on the train/bus/tram/navy carrier/elephant/hot air balloon/camel/Boeing 747/donkey/dingy who has their headphones on from start to stop. Not blaringly loud, mind you, because that's annoying. Thump-thumpers deserve and receive the glare of doom. As if commuters on the 6.50AM train need anything else to annoy them? All this is not to say that I'm not paying close attention to the world. The Strokes, The Beatles and Belle and Sebastian fill my heart with glee and squee! I am a crazy, obsessive, squeeing fangirl and shipper. A very serious, tragic shipper. I ship many couples, but my favourite pairings are Josh and Donna from The West Wing, Abby and Gibbs from NCIS, Ten/Rose and Nine/Rose from Doctor Who and John/Teyla from Stargate Atlantis. I'm open to differences in opinon about all couples, canon or otherwise, believing that people have the right to ship what they ship, but if you mock or attack those four with the intent to insult, I will jump on you and tackle you to the ground with the strength of a rabid fangirl. Trust me, it'll be like the opening chapter of "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" where Arthur Dent threatens the people who've bulldozed his house. Attacking someone's ship is dirty. That being said, I do delve into the mystery called the 'real world' from time to time. I'm yet to find anything particularly interesting though. I like to noodle around with pictures despite my inability to do anything particularly wonderful with them. I also think the word "noodle" is pretty nifty. Which, in itself is another corker. The story goes on. I often mope in frustration at never being able to memorize the entire English language. I compile lists of interesting words, but then I only create mini-dictionaries, which doesn't make a lot of sense. I enjoy finding amusing babelfish translations and delight in strange foreign words that simply don't exist in English. So...yeah. I collect anything and everything under the sun. Newspapers, paper bags, tags from clothing, interesting chocolate wrappers, cards, bottles, coasters, receipts, tea bags (unused), dictionaries, and records. Somehow I have an extremely clean room. Probably because beautiful storage boxes are whatever higher being that happens to be lingering around's gift to the world. I also collect beautiful storage boxes, which is fairly convenient. Phases haunt me and, unfortunately, I suffer from them severely. Nothing hurts me more than to not feel what I did a month before. Except perhaps remembering every embarrassing thing I've ever done. I'm one of those 'looking to the past' sort of people. I don't forget much, unless in a truly Murphy like way it's something I actually need to remember, like putting the rubbish bins out before the trucks come roaring around the corner or taking the washing out of the machine before it starts pelting rain or hits 10 PM. If it's knowledge that's required for whatever exam I may be staring down the barrel of, then obviously I'll forget that too, but I've been assured that this is in fact quite common. The disease of The Procrastinator, The Crammer and The I-Didn't-Actually-Study-For-This-Oh-Well-Here-Goes. It's a rather frustrating way of life, I suppose. I want to travel. Backpack, to be precise. By myself, and on the cheap too. Though the second part's not really out of choice but rather circumstance. I went to Singapore in July 2006, and it was incredible. I'm on the hunt for volunteer programs in Africa at the moment, particularly in Tanzania. There are so many places I want to visit, but at the top of my list is Cambodia. Ever since I was little, I've had a list of sites that I've wanted to visit. The Pyramids of Giza and the Temples of Abu Simbel (Egypt), Angkor Wat (Cambodia), Petra (Jordan), Machu Picchu (Peru) and Tikal in Guatemala. When my sister is older, we're planning to travel around New Zealand, even if she doesn't really know it yet. On the other hand, I'd also like to make it to the UK, particularly Scotland, before I'm shuffled off this mortal coil, because I'm certain I could pick up the accent in a flash. Scotland gave us Belle and Sebastian and David Tennant, so my love for the country knows no bounds. I'd like to travel around France and Italy. If I happened to stray into a German beer hall during the Oktoberfest, then so be it. Life's full of little sacrifices like that. Oh sod it, who am I kidding? I want to go practically everywhere. My whole life I've felt stifled by my surroundings. I have a romanticised view of travelling, I know, but it's better than what I've got here. Feel free to friend me.
